Devido à promessa de mudar para o Canadá se John Kerry perdesse a eleição de 2004, o ardoroso liberal John Logue (Breckin Meyer) de repente se vê sem emprego, sem namorada e... sem país! Para cumprir sua "promessa de campanha", Logue encontra uma companheira de viagem - uma moça sensual e misteriosa chamada Chloe (Anna Paquin) - e parte rumo ao norte.
