Wembley had been staging the F.A. Cup Finals since 1923, without parading a single club from outside the first two Divisions of the Football League. In 1967 the League Cup Final was played there for the first time in its present form, giving a rare opportunity for a Third Divsion side, Champions elect, Queens Park Rangers to take on one of the First Division's big guns West Bromwich Albion, who riding high in the top half of the table. Although QPR are given little chance of winning they did have one real match winner in their ranks, Rodney Marsh. For West Brom their twin strike force of Jeff Astle and Clive Clark, an ex-QPR player who was attempting to score in every round, could strike fear in any side in the top division.


This game was never broadcast live or in full but instead was broadcast as part of a normal "Match of the Day" programme.
