Plot Summary

Since 2007, Anne Widdecombe has fronted a television series called 'Ann Widdecombe Versus', on ITV1, in which she speaks to various people about things related to her as an MP, with an emphasis on confronting those responsible for problems she wished to tackle.



On 15 August 2007 she talked about prostitution, the next week, about benefits and the week after that, about truancy. A second series started on 18 September 2008 in which Ann travelled around London and Birmingham talking to girl gangs. On 25 September 2008, she investigated the diet and weight-loss industry, celebrity magazines and cosmetic surgery. That episode also dealt with people's attitudes to body shape, along with people's experiences of being on diets, and having regained the fat they had lost after having achieved weight loss.

Episode 1 - Prostitution

Original Air Date: 15th August 2007



The MP begins tackling social ills by focusing on the vice trade. Never one to shirk confrontation, she visits Manchester, Southampton and Peterborough to meet pimps, prostitutes and kerb-crawlers, and investigates how effectively the law is dealing with the problems created by their activities.



Episode 2 - The Benefits Culture

Original Air Date: 22nd August 2007



Ann turns her attention to another issue of current concern, asking what can be done to end what she sees as the culture of dependency on state handouts among some members of society. To gain a first-hand insight into the problem, she moves in with an unemployed father, his wife, mistress and seven of his 15 children to find out how they live.



Episode 3 - The Truants

Original Air Date: 29th August 2007



Ms Widdecombe discovers the anguish and frustration of living with a child who refuses to go to school.
