3 Minute Wonder is a showcase for short films from new and upcoming writers and directors on Channel4. They run each day, usually from Monday to Thursday (though not in this case), with each week's films linked thematically.





In 2008 it's estimated that over a million secondary school children truanted at one point or another, and almost 65,000 had a spell of being excluded from school. These are four stories from young people who for one reason or another have fallen through the cracks in the mainstream education system, and what they are doing now to try to get on with their lives.





1. Adam


Adam is 15 with a history of violence and has been absent from schooling for two years. He is also bored out of his mind. Through a project called Frontiers he's travelled with a group of other children similarly disengaged from school to a project Bulgaria where working with orphans in that country will give them some goals in life and a new sense of self-respect.





2. Josh & Jordan


Twins, Josh and Jordan, from Liverpool were two scallies on a fast track to a life of crime and prisons. They hated school so they stopped going at the age of 13. (School by the sounds of things were quite relieved by that.) Now they are involved in the Harmonize Education Project which is giving them a sense of purpose and might just launch them on a career in the music industry.





3. Ben


Ben's education fell apart at the age of 13 after the death of his mother. Quickly his attendence fell through the floor, and when he was there he was either disengaged from the environment or fighting with teachers and pupils. Now he's involved with a project called Trax which is teaching him about riding and repairing motorbikes. He seems a much more settled individual now.





4. Shaneice


When her Mum died Shaneice stopped carrying about anything. She stopped school and started drinking and doing absolutely nothing with her day. Now she's joined the same project as Adam from the first film, and although she's only just joined already her self esteem is on the rise, and she's building new goals in her life.
