BBC documentary series following criminal cases from reporting of the crime through to trial verdict.

Synopsis: In an episode of 'Police' Roger Graef's 1982 documentary series about the Thames Valley force, a woman rape complainent was shown being bullied by male detectives. She eventually dropped the complaint. The pubic outcry that ensued was immediate and changes in the way police questioned such woman was swiftly instituted.

Charles Stewart, who filmed that ground-breaking 'Police' series, made this episode of 'Watching the Detectives'. Times may have changed to a certain extent but not throughout every layer of the criminal justice system. With only one in five victims of rape reporting the crime this programme gives a shocking look at why they are afraid to give evidence.

This week's programme involves a man accused of raping a 14 year-old girl in Doncaster. At first he tells the police that he never met the girl but in court his story changes, subjecting her to a second horrifying ordeal - this time at the hands of his defence lawyers. Narrated by Martin Shaw
