Episode 1

Kevin McCloud follows a community-led regeneration scheme in the former mining town of Castleford in Yorkshire. Over the course of five years, local residents and agencies work with leading architects and designers in a bid to improve the area. In the first programme, the architects compete to design a new pedestrian bridge.

Episode 2

Kevin McCloud follows plans to rejuvenate three green spaces in some of the most neglected neighbourhoods in Castleford, as residents collaborate with architects to make a change for the better in their communities. In the village of New Fryston, acclaimed designer Martha Schwartz finds her proposal of a £1million centrepiece park under criticism from locals.

Kevin McCloud follows attempts to revitalise Castleford's town centre market. Three local stall holders oversee the radical work of architects Anthony Hudson and Rahesh Ram, but when the prototype for the new stalls is tested, they are forced to acknowledge it as a failure. Plus, ambitious plans for an outdoor cinema, fountains and statues contend with the realities of beaurocracy and a limited budget.

Architect Deborah Saunt aims to convince Castleford council of her plans to coat an underpass with red rubber, while community champions Derek Blakeston and son present designs including a Roman chariot-inspired waste bin. Presenter Kevin McCloud revisits the town five years on to see whether it has improved as much as residents hoped.
