Midsomer Murders - Series 11

Episode 1: Shot at Dawn

It's hardly seasonal, but this meandering summer mystery may be just the thing to complement that woozy feeling you get after ten days of overdoing it, when nothing much makes sense anyway. And the story revolves around families at war - now there's a seasonal theme. The Hammonds and the Hickses of Midsomer Parva have been arguing among themselves for generations. These days the feud mostly shows itself in a lot of angry jowl-shaking from Donald Sinden (nobody shakes a jowl better) as the Hammond patriarch. But soon characters are being bumped off in needlessly elaborate ways and it's time for John Nettles to trundle around the place like a smug old hoover, gathering clues. You'll never guess whodunnit.

You've got to feel sorry for dear old DCI Tom Barnaby (John Nettles). The poor chap can't even walk his own daughter down the aisle without being called away to investigate some horrible murder or other. This heinous crime has been committed at another, somewhat posher, wedding, where a bridesmaid's lifeless body is found pinned to the wall by a family dagger. Now that's bound to put a damper on proceedings.
