By 1986 Queen played to over 8 millon people and sold over 80 million records worldwide. To promote A Kind Of Magic in the summer of 1986, Queen played stadiums and outside concert venues. Over 2 million people saw Queen on that tour. The Wembely Staduim shows (July 11th and 12th 1986) which were suppose to be the end of the tour are only eclipsed by the Knebworth Park show in Augsut 86 - playing to 180,000 people. Though not planned, this was Queen's last tour and show. Queen ended their touring career with a bang. The Live At Wembley album shows four very talented muscians and showman how to give the people what they want. Besdies bringing to life some old Queen songs (In The Lap Of The Gods, Seven Seas of Rhye and 15 secs of Liar), the pop top 40 songs (Under Pressure, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, A Kind of Magic etc...)are performed with a vitality and rawness that not every band can cliam to hold. You can hear how Brian, Roger and John play off each other and have a sixth sence when anticipating where each one is going. And, what could be said about Freddie, he has the crowd in the palm of his hand. Freddie is one of the best frontman ever. His voice is in top form and with his vocal improv, he takes the audience to places that not many can. Get this CD and experience the magic, rawness and grandure that Queen were.
Bigger-than-life and proud of it, Queen's tongue-in-cheek pomposity was ironically one of its most endearing charms. This double-disc live album recorded at the band's typically massive 1986 Wembley Stadium stand in support of its A Kind of Magic album is a perfect distillation of the band's overarching intentions--and virtually every '70s/'80s rock cliché punk rebelled against. The tracks may reverberate with the boominess of the punter's paradise they were recorded in, but it's an ambience that underscores the shows' propulsive, populist intent. Latter day hits like "Under Pressure" and "Another One Bites the Dust" may have their nascent club-beat savvy hammered into conformity with thumping rockers like "We Will Rock You" and "Tie Your Mother Down," but then this is as unapologetic as stadium rock gets. Mercury, May, Deacon, and Taylor are in top form throughout, shrewdly building the show into what, given its relatively late recording date in their career, might as well be an emblematic greatest hits live
