AnyDVD ist ein Treiber, der im Hintergrund automatisch und unbemerkt eingelegte DVD-Filme entschlüsselt. Für das Betriebssystem und alle Programme scheint diese DVD niemals einen Kopierschutz oder Regionalcode-Beschränkungen gehabt zu haben. Mit Hilfe von AnyDVD sind somit auch DVD-Kopierprogramme wie CloneDVD, Pinnacle InstantCopy, Intervideo DVDCopy u.a. in der Lage, kopiergeschützte DVD-Filme verarbeiten zu können.AnyDVD entschlüsselt aber nicht nur DVDs: AnyDVD ermöglicht auch das abspielen, kopieren und rippen kopiergeschützter Audio CDs!
AnyDVD kann aber natürlich noch viel mehr: So ist es z.B. möglich, DVDs beim Abspielen auf minimale Geschwindigkeit herabzudrosseln, was den Filmgenuss durch reduzierte Laufwerksgeräusche deutlich erhöht.Nicht nur, dass AnyDVD das automatische Starten von auf der DVD befindlichen DVD-Viewern (z.B. PC-Friendly) unterdrückt, es kann darüber hinaus auch je nach Art der DVD benutzerdefinierte Programme beim Einlegen und Auswerfen starten.Auch eine vordefinierte Bildwiederholrate (z.B 72 Hz bei NTSC und 75 Hz bei PAL) lässt sich beim Starten entsprechender Filme automatisch auswählen.
Ganz nebenbei werden übrigens auch Benutzungsbeschränkungen aufgehoben, wie z.B. lästige Wartezeiten bei den Copyright-Meldungen zu Beginn einer DVD oder Zwangsuntertitel.
