Liverpool, 1960. John Lennon (Ian Hart) e Stuart Sutcliffe (Stephen Dorff) organizam uma viagem a Hamburgo para tocar com Paul McCartney (Gary Bakewell), George Harrison (Chris O'Neill) e Ringo Starr (Paul Duckworth) em bares. Após o músico e artista plástico Klaus Voormann (Kai Wiesinger) assistir uma de suas apresentações ele fica entusiasmado com a banda, já batizada de The Beatles, e convence sua namorada, Astrid (Sheryl Lee), a apresentá-los para o circuito alternativo da cidade. Aos poucos Sutcliffe se aproxima de Astrid e se afasta cada vez mais da banda, que acaba recebendo um convite para gravar seu primeiro disco.
