O Coronel Childers é o Comandante da unidade especial de fuzileiros chamada a efectuar a evacuação da embaixada americana no Iémen, assediada por uma multidão de manifestantes. A Missão torna-se mais violenta do que o previsto e Childers manda os seus homens abrirem fogo. Transformado no bode expiatório do governo, Childers ´+e levado a tribunal de guerra, onde é defendido por um amigo fuzileiro, o coronel Hodges. A este cabe provar que Childers não excedeu o âmbito da sua autoridade.
