Sein Erfinder, der Universitätsprofessor Robert Kearns, verhandelt lange mit Ford, bis der Gigant aus Detroit unvermittelt absagt. Kurz danach muss der enttäuschte Kearns erleben, wie der Ford Mustang mit seiner Erfindung der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt wird. Kearns klagt und begibt sich in einen aufsehenerregenden Kampf um Anerkennung und Gerechtigkeit. Seine Frau Phyllis und seine Kinder unterstützen ihn nach Kräften. Doch der Konzern hat Geld, Macht und vor allem: Zeit. Kann Kearns den übermächtigen Gegner in die Knie zwingen?
