Der psychotische Sully (C. Thomas Howell, "The Hitcher") ist überzeugt, dass der Mann, der ihn ins Gefängnis brachte, auch schuld am Unfalltod seiner Frau ist. Dieser Mann ist Detective Dave Reynolds (William Katt, "The Man From Earth"), dessen leichtgläubige Tochter Toni (Haley Webb) zum Schlüssel von Sullys ausgeklügelten Racheplänen wird. Mit der Hilfe seiner durchgeknallten Freunde entführt er das Mädchen in die Berge, wo Reynolds in die Falle tappen soll. Sully hat aber nicht damit gerechnet, dass drei Mitschüler von Toni in das Katz-und-Maus-Spiel verwickelt werden. Die Dinge laufen aus dem Ruder und es kommt zum Überlebenskampf in der erbarmungslosen Wildnis.
