The 1936 live recording of Adolf Busch performing Busoni's Violin Concerto belongs to the category of "recordings everyone should have." It's a stunning performance of a stunning work - and a recording to be thankful for in spite of its obvious flaws (imperfections which, in the end, are relatively insignificant when set against this recording's musical substance). 





Currently, there exist several CD reissues of this recording. This particular offering, however, is taken from a Rococo LP from the 1970s (and a random guess would be that at least one of the above CD issues likely draws upon the material contained in the Rococo issue). A certain amount of the more obtrusive noise remaining from the original acetate discs has been removed ("by hand" in some cases) - i.e., noise which can be removed without impairing the sound of the recording itself. The same may be said about the 1977 Odyssey reissue of the Bach Violin Concerto No.1 - except that here the removed noise left on the LP originated from shellac rather than acetate discs.  





LP transfers of material recorded 1936 (Rococo label, c.1970s); c.1940 (?), 1942 & 1945 (Odyssey / Columbia, 1977); restoration of 78rpm material recorded c.mid-1940s (Columbia set M-609).
