John Drake (played by Patrick Mcgoohan) was a special operative for NATO, specializing in security assignments against any subversive element that threatened world peace. The series featured exotic locales from all over the world, but it was relatively down-to-earth and realistic--especially when compared to its successor, "Secret Agent".





The second season was called "Secret Agent" when rebroadcast in the U.S.  It had a new theme song ("Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers) and the format had changed from half-hour to hour-long episodes.
