Aidar è un giovane kirghiso che vive da qualche anno a Parigi e decide di tornare nel suo villaggio natale insieme alla fidanzata Isabelle, per il matrimonio di un cugino. Aidar è molto cambiato, ontano dalla sua terra e dalle sue tradizioni si è realizzato come uomo e come giornalista, ma non tutto il resto è rimasto invariato: il lago Issyk-Kul risplende ancora, l'aria è pura e le montagne sono ricoperte di neve. Isabelle non capisce come Aidar abbia potuto lasciare un posto così bello e soprattutto, perchè non la presenta a nessuno come la sua fidanzata, ma Aidar non trova il coraggio ed ogni avvenimento diviene spunto di equivoci e complicazioni.
