Um mit etwas Abstand ihr Leben wieder in den Griff zu bekommen, mietet die junge Studentin Danielle ein abgelegenes viktorianisches Landhaus. Doch das alte Gebäude birgt ein düsteres Geheimnis, das Danielle immer mehr verwirrt. Um ihrer Schwester Anna zu beweisen, dass sie sich die seltsamen Geräusche und Umstände in dem düsteren Gemäuer nicht nur einbildet, beginnt sie damit, sich mit der Vergangenheit des Hauses zu beschäftigen. Sie findet heraus, dass dort vormals ein brutaler Kindermörder namens Edgar Crowe sein Unwesen trieb und vermutet, dass dessen untote Seele durch diese Residenz spukt. Doch schon längst hat sich Crowe der jungen Frau bemächtigt und benutzt sie als Gehilfin zum Bau eines grausamen Folterinstruments. Anna sieht sich nun der Herausforderung gegenübergestellt, diesen Horror zu beenden - ohne das Leben ihrer Schwester in Gefahr zu bringen.
