Overview:



Plot Summary:

Awooga! The 1990s Saturday-night staple - a hit with viewers who found WWF wrestling too cerebral and monochrome - is revived by Sky. Kirsty Gallacher and Ian Wright replace Ulrika Jonsson and John Fashanu as hosts, and of course the old gladiators have been put out to pasture, making way for new camp titans such as Spartan, Oblivion and the short-rippingly buffed Atlas. There are some new games, too, including a slightly sissy one where the glads try to knock the contenders into a swimming pool with big pendulums. Striped Scot John Anderson returns as the ref.

How do 90s titans Trojan, Rocket and Flame compare to today's Gladiators? This end-of-series special answers that knotty question, pitting the warriors in hotpants against their elders. Referee John Anderson - who is no spring chicken himself - gets things off to a cheeky start with talk of "old gladiators". "We're not old, we're legends!" roars the first teethgnashing baddie, Wolf, punching the air. From then on it's pure pantomime, as Wolf wages war on his pouty replacement, Oblivion. Their duel is the centrepiece of this camp contest and takes place on a gigantic wobbling ring, suspended from the ceiling. Even presenter Ian Wright ends up rolling around on a crashmat, dodging blows.
