In these days of constant  doom and  gloom  concerning the financial crises, global warming, threats of terrorism and so on  what better tonic than nine vintage 1 hour shows from the one and only Tommy Cooper. His shows were all critical and commercial hits and, of them all, arguably his finest were the nine editions of the Tommy Cooper Hour, produced by Thames in the 1970s. Itâ€™s hardly surprising that it was noted "he only had to walk on stage to cause hysterics". The Tommy Cooper Hour was first broadcasted on  31.10.1973: he had come back to the TV screen after a gap of a few years and starred in what turned out to be a total of 9 shows for UK ITV, with the magic and jokes, a couple of guest artists (including Abba) and some filmed short sketches. His world of humour was devoid of swearing, politics or anything remotely contemporary or offensive. But his delivery of those corny gags will have you rocking â€“ what can you say about a man who says he uses starch spray to get rid of flies so they glide out of the windows?  Could anyone else make funny: " Two blondes walk into a building..........you'd think at least one of them would have seen it."   I know the idea has been tried many times but has anyone else ever managed to wear 2 halves of British and German military uniforms and play the 2 characters so unbelievably ridiculously by themselves? The answer will remain No.





There were highs and lows in each show of course but overall these are unforgettable and deathless performances by a unique individual we shall never  enjoy the likes of again
