~Plot~





Der unschuldige Banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) wird zu zweimal


lebenslänglicher Haft verurteilt, weil er seine Frau und ihren Geliebten erschossen


haben soll. Schnell lernt Andy den grausamen Knast-Alltag kennen. Direktor


Norton (Bob Gunton), der sadistische Aufseher Hadley (Clancy Brown) und die


vergewaltigenden "Schwestern" machen ihm das Leben zur Hölle.





Lediglich der verurteilte Mörder "Red" (Morgan Freeman) wird Andys Vertrauter. Er


sitzt bereits seit zwanzig Jahren in Shawshank ein und kann alles beschaffen. Der


Ex-Banker verschleiert die illegalen Geschäfte von Direktor Norton. So erreicht er


bessere Haftbedingungen, doch seine Unverzichtbarkeit hat ihre Schattenseiten.


Als nach 19 Jahren der Beweis für Andys Unschuld erbracht ist, verhindert Norton


die Entlassung. Aber Andy hat noch ein Ass im Ärmel.
