Da kommt der Disc-Jockey Adrian Cronauer (Oscar -Preisträger ROBIN WILLIAMS, Mrs. Doubtfire, Club der toten Dichter) nach Saigon und bringt mit seiner Radio Show die Stimmung zum Kochen. Über Nacht wird er der absolute Truppenliebling. Die GI's vergöttern ihn. Die Unverfrorenheit seiner Sprüche und vor allem die Musik aus der Heimat bringen endlich Abwechslung in den Kriegsalltag. Doch seine Vorgesetzten fürchten um die Kampfmoral der Truppen und um ihre Autorität.
