Cosa accade se un edicolante romano vuole entrare nel dorato mondo della nobilt? europea? Solo una cascata di guai, quello che succede ad Alberto (Alberto Sordi), edicolante romano che sogna di vivere emozionanti avventure tra alberghi e viaggi. Non potendovi accedere, Alberto "studia" da nobile presso il Conte Max Orsini Varaldo (Vittorio de Sica), un nobile spiantato che vive alle di lui spalle. A frenare le sue esuberanze sono lo zio Giovanni (Juan Calvo) e la zia (Tina Pica) buggerati per? a Natale quando Alberto invece di andare da parenti spende tutti i suoi risparmi per andare a Cortina. Qui conoscer? un gruppo di nobili tanto supponenti quanto antipatici e la serva Lauretta. Una serie infinita di equivoci e di scambi di persona porter? Alberto a decidere tra vivere una vita ricca ma non sua ed un'altra pi? normale che per? gli appartiene.
