Brian von Nazareth (Graham Chapman) kann eigentlich wenig dafür, dass er in derselben Nacht und am selben Ort wie Jesus geboren wurde, doch immer wieder nimmt sein Leben einen ähnlichen Verlauf.


Als er sich dem palästinensischen Widerstand gegen die römischen Besatzer anschließt, erkennt man in ihm sogar einen Messias, und er muss sich den Nachstellungen hysterischer Möchtegern-Jünger erwehren.


So gerät er schließlich auch mit Pontius Pilatus aneinander, was prompt mit dem üblichen Ergebnis endet.
