Sie handelt von der Reise der USS Voyager. Die Voyager strandet in der Pilotfolge etwa 70.000 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt am anderen Ende der Galaxie, im Delta-Quadranten. Zusammen mit ihr hat es auch Mitglieder einer Widerstandsgruppe dorthin verschlagen, die sich der Voyager-Besatzung anschließen, um nach Hause zu gelangen. Die Reise dauert voraussichtlich 70 Jahre.
