En raison de problèmes aux yeux (elle perd peu à peu la vue), Vicki Nelson est forcée d'abandonner la police. Déterminée à prouver qu'elle peut continuer à travailler, elle devient détective privé. Très vite, elle découvre un monde peuplé de créatures surnaturelles.
