Ben Carson hat nicht nur seine Polizeimarke, sondern nach Alkoholexzessen auch das Vertrauen seiner Familie verloren. Um endlich wieder Fuß zu fassen, nimmt er den Job als Nachtwächters für die Ruine des Kaufhauses Mayflower an, das bei einem Flammeninferno fast vollständig zerstört wurde. Auf seinen Rundgängen durch die finsteren Hallen reflektieren gewaltige Zierspiegel düstere Bilder der Vergangenheit. Zunächst glaubt er an Hirngespinste, aber bald sieht sich Carson einer teuflischen Macht gegenüber, die über Spiegel in unsere Welt tritt und nicht nur sein eigenes, sondern auch das Leben seiner Frau und Kinder bedroht. Carson muss sich dem Geheimnis der Spiegel stellen, doch die Wahrheit ist grausamer, als er sich je vorstellen konnte
