Wir schreiben das Jahr 480 vor Christus.
Knig Leonidas marschiert mit einer kleinen Armee von loyalen Spartanern auf Thermopylen zu. Dort befindet sich eine hundertausende Soldaten umfassende bermacht an Persern, die Griechenland erobern wollen.
Leonidas gelingt es schlielich, seine Armee mit der der Arkadier zu vereinen und den Angriff der Perser vorerst abzuwehren. Deren Knig Xerxes bittet Leonidas zu einer Audienz und versucht, ihn zur Kapitulation zu bewegen. Lenonidas lehnt allerdings ab und schlgt auch die nchste Angriffswelle erfolgreich zurck. Als sich die Situation der Spartaner jedoch immer mehr verschlechtert, schickt Leonidas seinen Barden Dilios zurck, um den Griechen von der Schlacht zu berichten. Der Knig selbst bleibt mit seinen verbliebenen dreihundert Kmpfern zurck, um sich dem wohl endgltig letzten Gefecht zu stellen...
