Stronghold Legends n'est pas à proprement parler la suite de Stronghold 2. En effet, le moteur 3D utilisé est le même, le gameplay lui aussi est vraiment très semblable et les amateurs retrouveront donc très vite leurs marques, si bien qu'on pourrait plus qualifier le jeu de stand-alone.
