Ascendancy is a classic PC game of space exploration and conquest.  Developed by The Logic Factory, it was famed for its rich and absorbing atmosphere.  This included the music, composed by Nenad Vugrinec, which was notable for its textured quality when most other games of its time relied on MIDI scores.





Unlike The Logic Factory's second game, The Tone Rebellion, Ascendancy never recieved a soundtrack release despite its clamoring fans.  And so, here is the unofficial soundtrack, sourced directly from the game's audio data files.  Unfortunately, the high quality audio of a 1995 PC game is not quite the same as the hi-fi audio of today's games, as Ascendany's audio is in 8-bit 22KHz Mono.





For this soundtrack, however, the audio was converted to 16-bit, the 8-bit noise was filtered, the tracks were spaced with silences appropriate for album listening, and the result was encoded in high quality VBR MP3.  Appropriate game art has also been attached to each track as 'album art', to give visual life to each song.  The music itself clocks in short, at just over 25 minutes.  But I'm sure for fans of the game, it will be more than reminiscence enough.  And by triggering those memories, this release will have achieved its aim.  :)





For authenticity's sake, the game's original, unmodified audio data is included in a sub-folder, compressed in the lossless FLAC format.  If you do not wish to download this, uncheck the folder in your BitTorrent program.
