Robert Anthony Plant, CBE [born August 20th 1948 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire], is an English rock singer and songwriter, famous for his membership in the former rock band Led Zeppelin as the lead vocalist, as well as for his successful solo career.





Alison Krauss [born July 23rd 1971 in Decatur, Illinois] is an American bluegrass-country singer and fiddler. She entered the music industry at an early age, winning local contests by the age of ten and recording for the first time at fourteen. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and released her first solo album in 1987. She was invited to join the band with which she still performs, Alison Krauss + Union Station [AKUS], and later released her first album with them as a group in 1989.





'Raising Sand' is a collaboration album by rock singer Robert Plant and bluegrass-country singer Alison Krauss. It was released on October 23rd 2007. The album debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200, selling about 112,000 copies in its first week, the highest chart position for either artists' solo work. 'Raising Sand' was certified platinum on March 4th 2008. The album entered the Top 5 on the UK Albums Chart, going on to reach No.2 in January 2008. On February 8th 2009, the album won all five awards for which it was nominated at the 2009 51st Grammy Awards: "Album Of The Year", "Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album", "Record Of The Year" [for 'Please Read The Letter'], "Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals" [for 'Rich Woman']; and "Best Country Collaboration With Vocals" [for 'Killing The Blues']. After the album's success at the 2009 Grammy Awards, the album topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart and Top Internet Albums chart for the first time on the week of February 28th 2009. As of February 21st 2009, the album has sold over 1.26 million copies in the US. It was also No.1 on the Amazon.com Top Sellers list.
