This is the story of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes' Army of well over 100,000 men was confronted by Spartan King Leonidas' 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other Slave soldiers entrenched in the mountain pass. After waiting for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw, Xerxes army attacked the Greeks, who held the pass against the enormous odds for 3 days, after which they were all killed.





Inspired by this battle, the Greeks organized their defenses and ultimately defeated the Persian army in the Battle of Plataea (479 BC).
