Eté 1958, New Jersey. Quand leurs parents meurent dans un accident, Meg et sa petite soeur Susan partent vivre chez leur tante Ruth et ses trois fils, dans une petite ville typique des Etats-Unis du début des 50's. Là, elle fait la rencontre de David, un gentil garçon avec qui elle pourrait vivre le grand amour et passer un été inoubliable. Mais c'est sans compter sur sa tante, une femme malsaine et dérangée depuis que son mari les a abandonné, qui ne va pas tarder à faire de la jeune fille la cible de sa violente discipline, enjoignant ses fils à en faire de même. Bientôt ligotée dans la cave, torturée et humiliée, Meg n'est plus que la victime des jeux pervers de sa famille et des autres gamins du voisinage, et David va donc devoir faire un choix. Car s'il ne se décide pas très vite, le pire va se produire et il perdra alors à jamais son tout premier amour en même temps qu'il se perdra lui-même...
