Photoshop is the world’s leader in digital imaging software. It has been the industry standard design application for years, and with each new version it pulls further ahead of its competitors.





The new Photoshop CS3 means a complete overhaul over the previous versions, both in terms of interface design and new features. First, The interface shows now a more minimalist design, with all the elements integrated under an elegant shade of gray and reducing titles and buttons to mere lines. Tool windows have also been reorganized – apparently to make more room for the working area. However I have to say this new arrangement doesn't always help, as it sometimes it makes finding the right window a bit confusing.





Despite the new design, Photoshop CS3 still keeps a high degree of flexibility, which means you can customize the interface, brushes, patterns, tools presents and basically almost everything you find on the program. I also recommend getting used to the program's keyboard shortcuts, that will save you loads of time and mouse clicks.





Photoshop CS3 is definitely an application for professionals and as such, has quite a steep learning curve. But the length and sometimes difficult process of learning how to properly use Photoshop does have a reward: anyone who is willing to devote the required time to learn the basics will surely make the most out of all the tools, filters and effects included in Photoshop – and in turn, will be able to obtain even more astounding results. Luckily there is a huge amount of web resources, tutorials and manuals all over the Internet.





Finally, don't forget that Photoshop CS3 is a powerful application that can get quite heavy on system resources, especially when you start opening more and more high-resolution documents with tons of layers.





Though probably overwhelming for beginners, Photoshop CS3 is simply a must-have for everyone with an interest in imaging, particularly professional photographers and designers.
