Ham III, nipote del primo scimpanzé che volò nello spazio, fa la scimmia-cannone in un circo di terz'ordine, sfidandosi ogni volta in nuove acrobazie. Un bel giorno, però, l'Agenzia Spaziale lo scova e lo recluta: insieme all'affascinante tenente Luna e al baldanzoso comandante Titan, dovrà viaggiare ai confini dell'universo, alla ricerca della sonda Infinity inghiottita da un buco nero. Riluttante ma perfetto per il suo nuovo ruolo, Ham atterra sul pianeta Malgor, curioso solo di passare il tempo prima del glorioso rientro. Scoprirà che, se per gli umani non è nulla più di una cavia, per gli alieni può diventare un eroe, proprio come suo nonno.
