La storia narra di un enorme robot costruito dall'anziano scienziato Juzo Kabuto e lasciato in eredit?, alla sua morte, al nipote adolescente Koji Kabuto (in Italia Ryo). Compito dell'automa sarebbe stato quello di contrastare i piani del Dottor Hell (in Italia Dottor Inferno), uno scienziato tedesco che nel 1962 aveva partecipato con Kabuto e altri colleghi a una spedizione archeologica nell'isola greca di Bardos (Rodi nell'adattamento italiano), alla scoperta dei resti dell'antica civilt? micenea. Ritrovato l'esercito di mostri meccanici costruiti dai Micenei (Mikenes in originale), il dottor Hell svelava le sue reali intenzioni uccidendo tutti i presenti (tranne Kabuto, che riusciva a fuggire) e impossessandosi dell'antica tecnologia, con lo scopo di dominare entro pochi anni il mondo.
