A la suite d'un accident survenu dans le laboratoire secret du redoutable Professeur Simon Barsinister, un chien beagle tout à fait normal se retrouve doté de super pouvoirs. Doué de la parole et dissimulé derrière un délirant costume de super héros, Underdog jure de protéger les citoyens de Capitol City, et en particulier une très belle épagneule nommée Polly Purebread. Face au machiavélique complot du sinistre Barsinister et de son homme de main Cad, seul Underdog peut sauver la situation...

La série animée
Underdog est l'adaptation de la série animée du même nom, créée par Buck Biggers & Chet Stover et dont les 124 épisodes ont été diffusés aux Etats-Unis de 1964 à 1973 sur NBC. La série était une parodie explicite de Superman et commençait par une phrase qui faisait référence au début de Superman : "Not plane, nor bird, nor even frog, it's just little old me, Underdog"
Qui est Shoeshine boy / Underdog ?
Underdog, incognito en cireur de chaussures dans la vie de tous les jours, est interprété par un chien de la race des Beagles, nommé Leo. Jason Lee, à l'affiche de Clerks II ou encore The Ballad of Jack and Rose, lui prête sa voix dans la version originale.
