There are several famous character actors in this 1973 episode -- a rare GUNSMOKE comedy.  James Arness picked it for the 50th Anniversary DVD release as one of his personal favorites.  You can hear Jim's opinions on his commentary track.





The noteable guest stars include Margaret Hamilton, who in 1939 played The Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz", 


J. Pat O. Malley, John Fieldler,  Leo Gordon (was in the first GUNSMOKE 18 years earlier), frequent guest star Shug Fisher, and Douglas Fowley.  All of them were veteran character actors.





O' Malley and Fielder had previously guest starred together in THE FUGITIVE first season finale, "The End Game" (itself a comedy).





The sole newcomer in this episode is future "Eight is Enough" child actor Willie Ames, who plays a brat.
