Ruth Dickerson, as a piano teacher, felt constrained by the methods she had been taught. As a result, she began to follow her own instincts on how to develop a free technique.  The result was this short book published in 1962.  Well worth reading.  As she explained...





The first time I experienced in my own playing the glorious freedom that all this gives, it was a distinct shock to realize how different my life would have been if I could have understood these simple principles in my youth. I knew then that, no matter what the difficulties, I would have to make my notes into a book, so that anyone who wanted to might profit by my experience.
